Maintaining this distance demonstrates an understanding of the other person's comfort zone. A guard who respects this boundary is more likely to engage in a productive dialogue and build rapport, which is essential in security contexts where establishing trust is key. This position also allows the guard to observe the individual's non-verbal cues more easily, which are vital for assessing the situation and responding appropriately.

In contrast, being in personal space could overwhelm or intimidate the individual, while being further away in public space might hinder communication and connection. Intimate space is generally reserved for close relationships, which is not suitable for a professional security context.
